About

Donna York, Hillsborough, is founder of HARK ALS, which provides financial and emotional support for families affected by ALS. York’s daily acts of heroism exemplify commitment, courage, and leadership to the ALS community. Donna established HARK-ALS, in 2010, after watching her father, Charlie “Hark” Dourney, courageously fight ALS until he lost his battle in November 2009. Donna experienced first-hand the emotional and financial burden families face when a loved one is diagnosed with ALS. Every 90 minutes someone is either diagnosed or dies from ALS. The cost of caring for an ALS patient is well over $200,000 per year, most of which is not covered by insurance. Donna’s work is extremely important especially on a local level, as there is no ALS Association in New Jersey.
