Changemakers in Your Community
Every year, the Russ Berrie Making a Difference Award honors people in our New Jersey communities who are transforming lives and creating positive change. We are seeking nominations of people from all walks of life, from teens to seniors, who are tackling tough issues affecting individuals and communities around the state.
Making a Difference nominees are committed to building a better society for everyone. They are problem solvers, advocates, and changemakers. They are creating solutions that improve people’s lives, protect the environment, and ensure a more equitable and just future for all.

Nominate Someone Who Deserves Recognition
We are accepting nominations for the annual Making a Difference Awards now through February 7. Nominees range in age from young students to seniors, and come from diverse backgrounds. We look forward to celebrating their achievements!
- New Jersey resident whose work helps individuals or communities in New Jersey
- Someone who sacrifices their time and energy to solve community problems
- An exceptional volunteer in a community or nonprofit organization, or an innovative leader who started a nonprofit that is making a significant impact on individuals or communities in New Jersey
- A person who goes above and beyond to meet the needs of others
- We also seek nominations of individuals who have performed an act of heroism to help others in a dangerous situation. These are typically "untrained bystanders" and not trained first responders.
We welcome nominations of people from all walks of life, however, celebrities and elected officials are not eligible for an award. If you are nominating someone for achievements or heroic acts related to their paid job, you must describe why their actions are significantly “above and beyond” the typical responsibilities of their work.
An organized effort to submit multiple nominations for one individual is strongly discouraged.
Making a Difference winners receive recognition and cash awards
Winners will be honored at the Award Ceremony and will receive more than $150,000 in cash awards in 2025, in recognition of their commitment to serving others.
