Sister June Favata, of Newark, is the administrative director of St. Vincent Academy. Sister June implements programs into the all girls Catholic school curriculum which examine causes of poverty, homelessness and hunger that co-exist in an environment in which the students often live and know all too well. Sister has played a critical role in improving the welfare of her students, as well as the community of Newark. Sister June’s efforts have been award by the affirmations such as the “Miracle Makers Award” from the United Way, as well as the Community and Leadership and Service Award from St. Benedict’s Prep, Father Leahy a 1997 Honoree, and most importantly the gratitude of her students.
