About

Jennifer Papa is the Founder and Executive Director of City Green, a nonprofit farming and gardening organization, based in Clifton, New Jersey. City Green’s programs offer practical, technical and financial resources to foster equitable access to local food and green spaces, in support of sustainable, healthy communities. Jennifer has stewarded the growth of City Green from its inception to its current status as the premier urban agriculture organization in the state of NJ. City Green has grown from a small community garden organization to now encompass a regional school garden program supporting over 100 school gardens in 9 counties in NJ; a Passaic County-wide community garden program supporting over 75 community gardens across rural, suburban and urban communities; a summer high school internship program supporting paid employment and youth development for 15 teens each summer; 2 fully operational organic vegetable farms; and a mobile market operation supported by a Good Food Bucks nutrition incentive program doubling federal food benefits spent on fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition to running the Good Food Buck program at City Green markets, City Green provides support in the form of funding, training, and technical assistance to partner farmers markets and supermarkets to run their own Good Food Bucks programs that incentivize low-income families to spend their federal food benefit dollars on healthy fresh fruits and vegetables. Through the Good Food Bucks program network, low-income families across the entire state of New Jersey can have access to the healthy, farm-fresh produce they deserve. Jennifer leads all aspects of the organization from program development and property enhancements to fundraising and strategic planning, forging a positive path forward for local food systems, while using the beauty and enchantment of public garden and farm installations to inspire new pride in communities, change the personal and public experience of urban life, and ensure good food for all.
