various underlying reasons. Our state\u2019s unhoused include victims of domestic violence, military veterans, the disabled, and families with children.<\/p><p>Factors that drive homelessness include unemployment or underemployment, substance addiction, mental illness, disability, chronic health conditions, and general unaffordability throughout the state.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-794a724 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"794a724\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div families homeless, Roger Hinton saw gaps in critical support those families needed and created the Family Assistance Resource Center. This volunteer operation provides direct, immediate assistance to economically vulnerable families in the greater Newark area who have lost their homes and possessions in fires and due to natural disasters. FARC provides emergency food, housing referral assistance, clothing, toiletries, replacement furniture, and more to assist victims in their recovery. The organization also seeks to address the needs of those transitioning from homelessness, veterans, the elderly, the disabled, and families in class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fighting homelessness with tremendous heart<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connie was inspired to start HomeFront when she realized homeless mothers and children were living in terrible conditions in motels, as there were few shelters for families. HomeFront opened in 1991 with a group of volunteers bringing hot meals to families in local motels who had no food nor a way to prepare it. Almost immediately, HomeFront volunteers also began providing clothing, hygiene products and other basic needs as well as enriching experiences for their children. Nearly 35 years later, what began as a grassroots operation out of Connie\u2019s Lawrenceville kitchen is now a multifaceted organization with a family campus that houses an emergency family shelter, job readiness program, homelessness prevention program, teaching kitchen, childcare center and an art therapy center, all supported by onsite local agency services. HomeFront\u2019s goals are to provide stability for families and reduce poverty and homelessness in Central Mercer They used a donated space to store donations of blankets, clothing, personal care items and food, which volunteers distribute to more than 20 locations statewide, including churches, soup kitchens, shelters, community centers, and food pantries. Your Grandmother\u2019s Cupboard also has a food pantry that serves more than 300 people each month. Clark passed away in 2019 and Jean died in 2021, but the organization\u2019s volunteers continue to collect, sort, and distribute clothing, coats, blankets and personal care items to over 2,500 people per month from its Toms River and Phillipsburg homeless veteran outreach in NJ. after reading an article about homeless Vietnam veterans living under train tracks in Dover, NJ. This motivated Ray, an ordained deacon, to establish Operation Chillout, which runs a rapid response team that locates and refers homeless veterans, men and women to shelters. Believing in the inherent worth of every homeless man, woman and child, the organization\u2019s volunteers collect, sort and distribute water, warm clothing, survival gear, and basic supplies to veterans and others living on the streets. Today, the nonprofit serves all of New Jersey plus northeast Pennsylvania and coastal Rhode Island. Ray passed away in October Sally also recruited countless volunteers to assist with sheltered clients and developed a mentoring program to encourage and empower women.
