Dr. Fenster, the President NJIT, serves on the Board of Trustees of “Newark Fighting Back.” In his 15 years with the nonprofit he has been a catalyst for improving the quality of life in Newark. He has developed one of the largest and most successful pre-college programs in the nation and has actively worked to assure that NJIT ranks in the top in graduating minority engineers, scientists and mathematicians. Helped develop 1,200 units of affordable housing and two new business incubators to help provide jobs for the future. His idea for a science park is now coming to fruition providing jobs, housing and health care to Newark.
After nearly a quarter century as president of New Jersey Institute of Technology, Saul K. Fenster, having transformed a small engineering school into the nationally known public research university it is today, will retire in summer 2002.
