As a college student, Shimul “Shimmy” Mehta, of Rutherford, initiated the TKE challenge for Pediatric AIDS, a 300-mile, three-day cycling event that engaged his fraternity brothers to help children living with HIV/AIDS in Newark. After graduating, Shimmy began working for PwC and in his spare time, established Angelwish.org, a “digital philanthropy” nonprofit to help busy people grant wishes to more children living with HIV/AIDS. With the support of companies like Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, and UBS, Shimmy grew the organization to help over 130 hospitals and health care centers. To date, 25,000 donors have helped grant over 225,000 wishes.
